Summer camp

Our annual week at a traditional BSA/SA summer camp, with the merit badges, canvas platform tents, curiously beige food, singalongs, and all the rest

This is the classic sleepaway camp experience with a Scouty twist. We spend a week at an official SA camp—nearly always either Resica Falls or Ockanickon—as a troop.

Everyone sleeps in two-person canvas tents with cots and we all “enjoy” that brand of mediocre food everyone has such fun complaining about. There’s a pool and a lake, silly skits and singalongs by the campfire, ATVs and group competitions.

But mostly, there are merit badges. This is the chance to earn lots of intriguing badges way beyond what you’ll find at home.

Pro tip: You can only fit so many badge classes into a week, and camp costs money. Troop 116 leaders council many badges anytime you want for free. Don’t waste time (and money) earning a badge at camp you can get just by asking one of us. >> more

Yes, they offer all the classics (swimming basketry, leatherwork, woodworking) and Scouty and outdoorsy ones (kayaking, first aid, orienteering, wilderness survival), but lots of neat niche ones as well. Here are just a few badges 116 Scouts have earned in recent years:
